Restoring Hope in a Home

They lived without a stove, required many essential repairs and faced a citation warning from their village. They also longed to address the tremendous amount of unwanted possessions in their home. We sprang into action by providing a new range, and began prioritizing the home’s many needs. However, after installing the new range, nature intervened and created their most pressing need. Flooding from heavy rains breached the basement windows and inundated the basement of the home. With the support of flood remediation services and skilled contractors, we removed debris and did a thorough cleanup. We also replaced six windows to mitigate further damage.

Next, we gathered a Team from Saints Faith Hope & Charity church to work several days in a high-impact volunteer project centered around Rebuilding Day, to help us remove unwanted possessions, filling three 30-yard dumpsters. The Team also transformed the yard with plantings and by replacing large sections of fallen-down fence which had generated the citation warning from her Village.

We continued to help post-Rebuilding Day. We replaced a leaking skylight and repaired a damaged interior door and broken cabinet doors. In a further major high-impact project, we gutted and rehabbed their seriously deteriorated bathroom. We continued to help this family remain in their home in health, safety and dignity after another storm caused a large tree limb to fall, destroying another section of the back yard fence.
