Aware of the challenges facing homeowners today, we complete essential home repairs enabling low-income homeowners to remain in their homes. If you are a homeowner with a limited total household income, and need essential home repairs you are unable to afford, please review our eligibility information.

From safety upgrades to accessibility modifications, our repairs make homes comfortable and functional.

Some essential repairs might be carpentry, door and lock repair, porch repair, updating electrical items, minor plumbing repairs and installation of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. We target significant safety and health hazards to keep your home dry, clean, pest-free, safe, contaminant-free, well-ventilated, maintained and thermally controlled.

Determine Eligibility

Before applying for assistance, determine if you meet our applicant requirements.

Step 1

Verify Homeownership

  • You should be a homeowner and use your home as your primary residence.
  • Be current on your property taxes or be current on a qualified tax payment plan.
  • You should live in our coverage area that spans from Evanston in the south to the Wisconsin border in the north, and east of Interstate 94 in Illinois.

Step 2

Verify Income

  • You should meet HUD’s low-income guidelines for our area based on your combined household income and on the number of people living in your home (see Income Qualifications below).

Step 3

Verify Home

  • Be current on your property taxes.
  • Must have current homeowners insurance.

We review all applications we receive, but in order to be considered for our services, homeowners’ households must have a combined income of less than the amounts stated on the qualification charts.

Rebuilding Together North Suburban Chicago helps families in Chicago’s northern suburbs, from Evanston north to Zion, and from Lake Michigan west to I-294.
Rebuilding Together North Suburban Chicago serves applicants having low incomes and limited resources, with a special focus on veterans, older adults, persons with disabilities, and families with children.
Applicants must own and live in their homes in our coverage area, plan to live in their homes for the next two years, be current on their mortgages, property taxes and homeowner’s insurance, meet our specified household income requirements and have limited resources.
The information includes, among other things, (1) all of your household income from all sources (2) your savings (3) your primary home repair concerns (4) the names and birthdates of each resident in the home
After a comprehensive inspection, our board of directors will select projects based on a variety of factors including the relative need among our pending applications, available resources, the funding we receive from the community where the applicant reside, our previous service to the applicant, and recommendations from referral sources Our board of directors processes applications year-round and our project managers schedule inspections based on homeowner availability.
Our repairs include roofing, heating system installations, plumbing, carpentry and electrical repairs, accessibility improvements, kitchen and bathroom renovations, structural enhancements, painting, and more.
All repairs, including labor and materials, are FREE of charge to selected homeowners.
