Protecting What Matters Most
Replacing a leaking roof and restoring comfort for a mother and daughter during a difficult season.
In 2025, the daughter (48) moved back to her mother’s home to care for her mother (73) during challenging cancer treatments, finding a job where she could work from home.
When we previewed the home, the daughter told us, “It is raining into my mother’s bedroom.” They were overjoyed when we replaced their roof. But we saw more issues when we visited. Some rooms and trim were badly in need of painting; the back yard had no grass and was a patch of mud and more. We were thrilled to also orchestrate a Rebuilding Day project with a long-time volunteer team from First Presbyterian Church of Evanston to provide further help. We also were delighted that the daughter/homeowner, who is very handy, brought her happy spirit to the effort, joining the team. The team repaired walls, painted the living room and hall, power-washed the home and did yard work. Because the family was unable to afford a higher water bill, we were not able to plant grass seed or lay sod. Instead, we transformed the yard by installing “playground-grade” mulch, giving the grandchildren a place to play. We also planted perennials and a few pots.
Your work released a lot of stress and pressure. You did so many things for us with our new roof and on Rebuilding Day. Everyone was so kind and helpful. We are ecstatic about all the help we received!
